Egg drop 2

I'll be blunt.

It went well. Twice. In fact, it's kind of sad now that its over, it was fun. I think there's some pictures on my stepdad's blog, so if your interested, (which I somehow doubt you are) you can check them out. You know how my second favorite color is green? Well my friend's favorite color is also green, and the color of this text is in her honor. Anyhow, I wanted to say that I learned today that many brands are all owned by the same company. I think that that is really interesting. I mean, say you're really against cigarettes, but you end up giving a cigarette company money when you buy your microwavable mac and cheese. I think that that's the equivalent of cheating, only in the real world, not Monopoly. I also heard that as of 10 years ago, all of the brand names in the USA were actually owned by 5 major companies. I don't know whether or not to believe that, it's just what I heard, but I find it pretty alarming. If you have spare time, (I don't) then maybe you can research that and tell me if it's true. As I was saying, I think that that is really freaky because everything that you see, hear, eat- all boils down to one of five major sources. Not the best way of keeping a diverse country, if you ask me. But no one ever does. I'm "underaged". A load of coddswallop, really. Not trying to be stuck up or anything, but some people can be so thick and dimwitted, I think that my vote would count much more than theirs. But who cares. Election's not for a while, and knowing Bush, he wont change the voting age laws. I'm not sure that it's even in his power to do so, anyway. But lets stay away from politics. I've lost WAY too many relatives to permanent mental sickness because of prolonged political discussions. So end of story. Bye.

-You knew that.
-Course you did.
-Oh, whatever.

  • Hey Egg Dropper,

    Wow, you ask interesting questions!

So far as I know, the "brand names" in the United States are owned by considerably more than five companies. (It is true, however, that a lot of the newspapers are owned by the same company; that Frito-Lay makes most of the snack foods, or owns companies that do; and so on. I mean, did you know that there are three major supermarket tabloids, all competing to tell you about Bigfoot running for President... and they're all owned by the same company?!? Now that's freaky.)

I wouldn't worry about it, by the way. What usually happens is that a company gets big, has too much money and not enough sense, and they start buying up other companies, including their own competition. They think it's really great (for a while) that nobody's competing with them! But then they slowly get out of touch, and one day a tiny company with great ideas starts doing things that the big company isn't smart enough or nimble enough to do. If it's a really great idea, then many companies start doing it, and one of them gets big enough to take on the old big company. And then we have competition again; it evens out.

As for the voting, yep, I'm afraid it's not up to Bush. If we wanted to lower the voting age, it would take a Constitutional amendment... meaning that two-thirds of the States would have to agree to it. I think you'll be way past eighteen before that happens.

(Don't you hate it when someone posts a comment almost as long as your original post??)

    cheers,
    your evil (but loving) stepdad
